【美國亞利桑那州F-16墜毀後-台灣的飛行員】

LUKE空軍基地官員說，來自台灣的學生飛行員遇難後，一架F-16戰鬥機在亞利桑那州西北部墜毀。
他們說，船員仍在要找的人遲到週四下午，和跡象表明，他根本無法生存。

墜機事件發生大約上午8:30週四為飛行學員，並在另一架F-16的導師從事空 - 空作戰訓練。
當局說，飛機墜毀的原因尚不清楚。

S-400 missile defense 

Another top notch S-400 missile defense system has been deployed to Russia's far eastern Kamchatka Peninsula. The new generation weapons with a range of up to 400 kilometers can bring down small planes and nuclear charged ballistic missiles.

Thirty-six units of military hardware that make up one S-400 ‘Triumph’ (NATO codename SA-21 Growler) regiment were delivered to Kamchatka in the Far East from Southern Russia by sea. The Defense Ministry says it’s already been unloaded and taken to its permanent location near the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

It’s planned that five S-400 echelons will protect Kamchatka’s skies. Each delivery follows the systems’ thorough testing and training of personnel at the Kapustin Yar military range in the south of the country.

S-400’s are already protecting the skies over Moscow and St. Petersburg, and Severomorsk – the headquarters of the Northern Fleet, the Kaliningrad region – the most western part of the country, locked between Poland, Lithuania and Belarus and home to Russia’s Baltic Fleet, and also southern regions and the coast of the Sea of Japan in the Far East.

The S-400 is a new generation anti-aircraft system, which can be equipped with very long-range missiles (up to 400km), long-range (250km) and medium-range (120km). It’s capable of shooting down anything from small aircraft to cruise missiles such as the Tomahawk, and even ballistic missiles armed with nuclear warheads.

New Chinese Nuclear Sub Design Includes Special Operations Mini-Sub

China’s latest nuclear submarine design appear to include a shelter capable of holding a miniature submarine for special operations forces (SOF) not unlike vehicles used to deliver Navy SEALs to shore from U.S. nuclear attack boats, according to an image in wide circulation in Chinese online networks.

The Chinese boat — a Type-93T or Shang-class nuclear attack submarine — features a hangar for the SOF submersible that would allow People’s Liberation Army troops to discrete deployment much like U.S. forces, according to a translation of a March 17 story in the state-run Reference News.

The image was first reported in English by Jane’s Defence Weekly on Tuesday.

Reference News said unlike hangars for U.S. SEAL Delivery Vehicles (SDV), the hangar on the improved Shang-class attack boat could only accommodate the first two-thirds of the vehicle so “it enters [the] dock space as simple as an ink pen cap.”
The description implies some limitations on the capability.

White House: Taiwan needs new jets to counter China

In a shift of U.S. policy, the White House said Friday that Taiwan does have a legitimate need for new fighter planes to address a growing gap with the Chinese military and pledged to sell Taiwan an "undetermined number" new U.S.-made planes.

The new White House position could spark a new crisis in the U.S.-China relationship on the very same day that blind Chinese Activist Chen Guangcheng is rumored to have fled his house arrest to seek asylum at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner are also slated to visit China May 3 and 4 to hold the fourth round of the U.S. China Economic and Security Dialogue.
